Talking about the future

This module teaches the Urdu words for ambitions, dreams and jobs. Every word comes with three things: the Urdu script, a transliteration in brackets to help you say it, and the English meaning. Remember that Urdu is read right to left. You will recognise the words and their meanings here, not type them. (A native speaker should review the script before launch.)

Choose the right word

Three situations. Pick the Urdu word that fits each one.

• You want to talk about your DREAM for the future. Which word do you use?
• Your friend wants to become a doctor. Which word describes that job?
• Your friend wants to study for a degree. Which word names the place they would go?

Your turn: your ambition, in Urdu

Write about your ambition IN URDU. Write in Urdu script - the transliteration in brackets is a reading aid only.

• Name the idea: خواب (khwab - a dream), مستقبل (mustaqbil - the future) or کیریئر (kariyar - career)
• Name the job with میں ... ہوں (main ... hoon - I am ...): میں ڈاکٹر ہوں (main daktar hoon - I am a doctor), or use استاد (ustad - teacher) or انجینیئر (injiniyar - engineer)
• Say where you would study, with the postposition میں (in) AFTER the noun: یونیورسٹی میں (yuniversiti mein - at university)
• Join two ideas with اور (aur - and)

Learn all three Urdu forms

To master this vocabulary, link every word to all three of its forms: the Urdu script, the transliteration so you can say it, and the English meaning. Keep the ideas that are easy to confuse clearly apart - a خواب (khwab), a dream, versus a real کیریئر (kariyar), the career you build - and link the study word یونیورسٹی (yuniversiti) to the jobs. Reading each word right to left, saying it aloud, and testing yourself both ways is what builds real recall.
