AO4 asks you to **present a personal and meaningful response that realises your intentions**, and to **show understanding of visual language**. Almost everyone reads that as "make an impressive final piece". It is not what it says, and it is not how it is marked. The next card is the sentence that changes how you work for the last month of the project.
Your final piece is not judged alone 🧵
A moderator does not look at your final response on its own. They look for the **thread**: can this piece be traced back to the first-hand investigation that started the project? **A modest response with a visible thread scores above an impressive one that appears from nowhere.** That is not a consolation prize for weaker makers; it is what the objective actually rewards, on both boards. So the question to ask of your final piece is not "is this good?" but **"can someone else see how I got here?"**

The second half of AO4. It is assessed on whether you can say what an element **does** in your work, not on whether you can name it. These apply whatever your discipline:
