What you'll cover

Read about fame

In the reading exam you meet short Spanish texts and answer questions on them. Some answers are stated directly; others you have to work out, or infer, from clues. Read this text, then keep it in mind. Marta es una estrella de la musica pop. Es muy conocida. Tiene muchos seguidores y le gusta la moda.

Words in these texts

These four words appear in the texts. Learn them first.

Literal vs inference

Reading questions test two things: what a text says, and what it suggests.

Use the clues

When a question asks what a text suggests, look for clues rather than a stated answer. Notice the pattern with es for describing someone: Es una estrella means she is a star, and Es un actor means he is an actor. Read the whole sentence before you decide.

Match the word

  • estrella
  • seguidores
  • moda
  • revista
  • a star
  • followers
  • fashion
  • a magazine

What can you infer?

The text says Marta has many followers and likes fashion. What can you infer about her?

  • She is well known to the public.
  • She dislikes being famous.
  • She has no fans at all.
  • She is never seen in public.

Match the phrase

  • muy famoso
  • da entrevistas
  • gana un premio
  • tiene éxito
  • very famous
  • gives interviews
  • wins a prize
  • is successful

True about the text

Read again: Marta es una estrella de la musica pop y tiene muchos seguidores. Select the TWO statements that are true.

  • Marta is a pop music star.
  • Marta has many followers.
  • Marta is a film actor.
  • Marta is completely unknown.

Order the story

Read: Marta empezo a cantar joven. Gano un premio. Se hizo famosa. Ahora da entrevistas. Put the events in the order the text gives them.

  • She started singing when young
  • She won a prize
  • She became famous
  • Now she gives interviews

Fill the gaps

Choose the Spanish word that fits each gap. Un _____ escribe para una revista. Un _____ toca musica. Una persona con muchos _____ es popular. Ganar un _____ muestra talento. Un _____ sale en muchas peliculas.

periodista músico seguidores premio actor telerrealidad revista entrevista moda estrella

Find the clues

Tap the TWO Spanish words that show a celebrity is successful.

  • premios
  • seguidores
  • lunes
  • mesa

Finish the description

Which Spanish sentence means "she is very famous"?

  • Es muy famosa.
  • No es famosa.
  • Fue famosa.
  • Quiere ser famosa.

What does it suggest?

Read each short Spanish text and choose what it suggests.

  • Ana gana muchos premios y tiene mucho exito
  • Luis da entrevistas en muchas revistas y programas
  • A Sara le gusta la moda y sale en la telerrealidad

Answer in Spanish

Read this text: Carlos es un actor famoso. Gana premios y da muchas entrevistas. Le gusta su trabajo. Answer in Spanish in three or four sentences: what is Carlos like, and why is he well known?

  • Say what job Carlos does, using Es
  • Say why he is well known, using the text
  • Give your own opinion using Me gusta or es
