Building bigger words

گرم شدن کره زمین (garm shodan koreh zamin), global warming, is one of the biggest environmental problems. It is built from smaller words: literally the 'warming' of the 'globe of the earth'. Persian often builds environmental terms this way, so break long words into their parts when you read them.

Writing about the environment

You can now recognise the key words. In the exam you might write about an environmental issue, and you can weave these terms in. A strong answer names a problem (such as آلودگی, pollution, or گرم شدن کره زمین, global warming) and a solution (such as بازیافت, recycling, or protecting the جنگل, forest).

Write about an issue, in Persian

Name the issue and an action IN PERSIAN, then add ONE sentence in English saying why it matters. Write the Persian in script - the transliteration in brackets is a reading aid only.

• Name the issue: آلودگی (aludegi - pollution) or گرم شدن کره زمین (garm shodan koreh zamin - global warming)
• Name what it affects: محیط زیست (mohit-e zist - the environment)
