Free time is a favourite exam topic. This module gives you the Italian to talk about music, films, food and sport. You will meet the key words, learn how to say what you like doing, and pick up a useful grammar rule: Italian uses different verbs for playing a sport and playing an instrument. Two ways to play

Italian has two verbs for "to play". Which one you use depends on what you play.

giocare or suonare?

Remember the rule: you giocare a a sport (gioco a calcio) but you suonare an instrument (suono la chitarra). A common mistake is to use giocare for an instrument. To give a reason, add perché, as in gioco a calcio perché è divertente.
