When holidays happen

The long school રજા (raja) falls in the ઉનાળો (unalo), the summer, which is when many families take a પ્રવાસ (pravas), a trip. Families also travel to be together for festivals such as દિવાળી (Diwali), so holidays and celebrations often go hand in hand.

Places and transport

Holiday words fall into two groups. Sorting them this way makes them easier to recall, and adds one more place: પર્વત (parvat), a mountain.

Gujarati puts is at the end

The holiday words become sentences once you add છે (chhe - is) at the end, where English would not put it: - રજા ઉનાળામાં છે = "the holiday is in the summer". -માં (-ma - in) is stuck onto the end of ઉનાળો, not placed before it, and છે closes the sentence. - મને દરિયાકિનારો ગમે છે = "I like the beach". Literally "to me the beach is pleasing". મને (mane) is "to me", and છે closes this one too.
