Holidays are one of the topics you will be asked to talk and write about: **where you go, how you get there, and what you do**. English uses one word, "holiday", for two different things. Turkish keeps them apart: a **bayram** is a festival or public holiday, while a **tatil** is a holiday you take, the school break or a trip away. This module is about **tatil**.

Endings, not little words 💡

Where English puts a word in front ("to the sea"), Turkish glues an ending on the back of the noun. You have already met one: **okula gitmek**, to go to school. • **deniz + e = denize**, to the sea • **dağ + a = dağa**, to the mountain • **otel + de = otelde**, at the hotel Which ending you use depends on the vowels in the word. Front vowels (e, i, ö, ü) take **-e** and **-de**; back vowels (a, ı, o, u) take **-a** and **-da**. That is why it is deniz**e** but dağ**a**.
