Jobs and ambitions

This module builds your Bengali for jobs: naming jobs, talking about work, and saying what you want to be. Each Bengali example is shown with a simple way to say it in brackets, then its English meaning: ডাক্তার (daktar) means a doctor. A full sentence looks like this: আমি ডাক্তার হতে চাই (ami daktar hote chai), meaning I want to be a doctor.

Many Bengali job words are borrowed from English, so নার্স reads as nurse and পুলিশ as police. Sound them out and the English word appears. Others are fully Bengali words you simply learn, like the words for a gardener or a butcher. Read the whole word either way.

Reading a sentence

Now read a full Bengali sentence, verb last as usual: - আমি ইঞ্জিনিয়ার হতে চাই (ami injiniyar hote chai) = "I want to be an engineer". Parts: আমি (ami, "I"), ইঞ্জিনিয়ার (injiniyar, "an engineer"), then হতে চাই (hote chai, "I want to be") at the end.
