Health and wellbeing in French
This module practises the French you need for lifestyle and wellbeing: the vocabulary, the accents, and useful grammar for comparing choices and describing your routine. Spelling counts: a missing accent is a spelling error in the exam.
Key vocabulary
Learn these words with their accents:
Match each French word to its English meaning
- la santé
- manger
- le sport
- stressé
- health
- to eat
- sport
- stressed
The French word for healthy
Which French word means 'healthy'?
- sain
- stressé
- délicieux
- actif
Accents change the spelling
French accents are part of the word. Watch the acute accent in santé (health) and stressé (stressed), the grave accent in à and très, and the cedilla in ça. Learn each accent with its word, because leaving one out counts as a spelling mistake.
Complete the advice
Pour être en bonne _____, il faut boire de l'_____, bien dormir et faire du _____. Manger des fruits est _____.
Healthy choices
Select the TWO healthy-lifestyle choices, in French.
- Faire du sport régulièrement
- Boire de l'eau
- Manger beaucoup de bonbons
- Se coucher très tard tous les soirs
Match each routine verb to its meaning
- se coucher
- se lever
- se reposer
- se doucher
- to go to bed
- to get up
- to rest
- to shower
Comparing choices
To compare in French, use plus ... que (more ... than) and moins ... que (less ... than). For example: les fruits sont plus sains que les bonbons (fruit is healthier than sweets); la télé est moins active que le sport (TV is less active than sport).
Build the sentence
Put the French words in order to make: 'You must eat more healthily.'
- Il faut
- manger
- plus
- sainement
Complete the comparison
Complete: 'Les fruits sont ___ sains que les bonbons.' (Fruit is healthier than sweets.)
- plus
- moins
- très
- trop
Describe a routine
Le soir, je me _____ à dix heures et je me _____ bien. Le matin, je me _____ tôt. Il faut assez de _____ pour la santé.
