Talking about being online
This topic is one of the most useful on the whole course, because it is what people your age actually talk about: phones, messages, sharing things, and what can go wrong. The words here come straight from the specification's own vocabulary list, so nothing you meet below is optional or invented. Remember that Hebrew reads from **right to left**, and that everyday writing shows the consonants without vowel marks. The words look shorter than they sound.
Six words to start
Three things and three actions, all from the specification list.
Match the Hebrew to its meaning
- מדפסת
- רשת
- הודעות
- תקשורת
- printer
- net
- messages, text messages
- media
Which one is the printer?
You want to write about printing something out. Which word means **printer**?
- מדפסת
- רשת
- נקודה
- תקשורת
Things and actions look different
Hebrew verbs in a vocabulary list are given in a form that begins with a prefix, and once you notice it you can sort a list quickly.
Which two are actions?
Select the TWO words that name an action rather than a thing.
- לשלוח - to send
- לקבל - to receive
- מדפסת - printer
- נקודה - dot
The words the spec groups with these
Your specification puts four online-safety words in this same topic, which tells you what the examiners expect you to be able to discuss. סכנה means **danger**. סיכון means **risk**. הגנה means **protection**, and בטיחות means **safety**. There is one more worth having: מביך, meaning **embarrassing**, which is the word you need for the most common thing that actually goes wrong online.
Match each safety word
- סכנה
- סיכון
- הגנה
- בטיחות
- danger
- risk
- protection
- safety
Which Hebrew word?
The Hebrew for a printer is _____. The Hebrew for to send is _____. The Hebrew for to share is _____. The Hebrew for danger is _____. The Hebrew for safety is _____.
Saying what you have
Single words are not enough on their own. The specification's grammar list gives you a ready-made frame for saying what you do and do not have, and it takes any noun from this topic. **יש לי** means "I have". Put a noun straight after it: **יש לי מדפסת** = "I have a printer". To say the opposite, swap in **אין לי**: **אין לי מדפסת** = "I do not have a printer". Hebrew builds a sentence subject, verb, object, reading right to left, so nothing else moves. Swap the noun and you have a new sentence for free.
Which one says you do NOT have it?
You want to say **"I do not have a printer"**. Which is correct?
- אין לי מדפסת
- יש לי מדפסת
- אין לי רשת
- מדפסת

- Use one action word from this topic in Hebrew, and say what you do with it
- Use one of the four safety words, and say why it matters online
- Write the English meaning beside each Hebrew word you use, so your meaning is clear
