Every piece of music, in any style, is built from the same elements. Melody is the tune you can hum. Harmony is notes sounding together. Rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds. Tempo is the speed. Dynamics is how loud or soft it is. Texture is how many layers of sound there are. Timbre is the tone colour of a voice or instrument. Structure is how the piece is organised into sections. When you appraise music, you listen for these elements and describe how they are used and what effect they have.
