Translating into French ✈️
In the writing exam you translate short English sentences into **French**. On the theme of **travel and tourism**, that means knowing the words, their **articles** (le, la, les, l') and their **accents**. This module builds up from single words to whole sentences. (A native speaker should review the French before launch.)
The words you need 🔑
Start with four key travel words:
Match each English word to its French 🔗
- journey
- holidays
- beach
- suitcase
- le voyage
- les vacances
- la plage
- la valise
Which French word? 🛫
How do you say "the airport" in French?
- l'aéroport
- la gare
- le billet
- la chambre
Articles and accents matter 🇫🇷
Two things make or break a French translation: - The **article** shows the gender: **le** voyage (m), **la** plage (f), **les** vacances (plural), **l'** before a vowel (l'hôtel, l'avion) - The **accents** are part of the spelling: hô**t**el, a**é**roport, r**é**server. Missing one is an error. Learn each word with its article and accents from the start.

The grade-9 habit 🌟
In a translation, **every detail scores**. Get the **vocabulary** right, the **gender and article** right (le, la, les, l'), the **accents** right (hôtel, aéroport, réserver), and the **word order** right. Learn each new word as a package - article, spelling and accents together - and re-read your French to check nothing is missing. Accurate words, correct genders, every accent - top band.
