What you'll cover

Travel words

Vocabulary is the fastest way to make every German skill easier. Learn each noun with its article, because der, die and das carry gender.

Key German

These words are a compact practice set for the mapped theme. The exact appendix lists should still receive native-speaker review before launch.

Theme vocabulary

Sort the words by how you might use them.

Check the meaning

Which option means train?

  • der Zug
  • die Stadt
  • das Hotel
  • die Reise

Match German to meaning

  • der Zug
  • die Stadt
  • das Hotel
  • die Reise
  • train
  • town or city
  • hotel
  • journey or trip

Learn the article

German nouns are capitalised and normally learnt with der, die or das. The article helps later with cases and adjective endings.

Complete the notes

Complete the notes: _____ means train. _____ means town or city. _____ means hotel. _____ means journey or trip.

der Zug die Stadt das Hotel die Reise ich und

Weil sends the verb to the end

These words only do their work inside a sentence. German has one habit English does not: weil (because) sends the verb to the very end of its half of the sentence.

After weil, where does the verb go?

After weil, where does the verb go? Which of these says "I go to Berlin because the city is beautiful"?

  • Ich fahre nach Berlin, weil die Stadt schön ist
  • Ich fahre nach Berlin, weil die Stadt ist schön
  • Ich fahre nach Berlin, die Stadt ist schön
  • Ich fahre gern mit dem Zug

Two accurate choices

Which TWO statements are accurate?
