Talking about yourself in Italian 🇮🇹
Italian uses the same Latin alphabet as English, so you can already read it. Two things are new: some vowels take a written **accent** (like **è** = is), and every noun has a **gender**. Nouns are either **masculine** (the word for "the" is **il**) or **feminine** (the word for "the" is **la**). You learn each word with its article.
Saying who you are 🙋
Two ways to introduce yourself: - **io** = I - **mi chiamo...** = my name is... (literally "I call myself") So mi chiamo Anna means "my name is Anna".
The family 👨👩👧
Learn each word with its article (il = masculine, la = feminine): - **il padre** = father, **la madre** = mother - **il fratello** = brother, **la sorella** = sister - **la famiglia** = family, **l'amico / l'amica** = friend (male / female)
Match each Italian word to its meaning

Gender and accents 🔤
Every Italian noun is **masculine** or **feminine**, and the article shows which: **il** padre (masculine), **la** madre (feminine). Some words also carry a written **accent** that you must not drop. Compare **e** (= and) with **è** (= is): the accent changes the meaning, so it is part of the spelling.
