Reading Persian 📖

Persian is written in a flowing script, read from **right to left** (the opposite of English), and it has **no capital letters**. The letters **join up** into cursive words. In this module every word is shown three ways: the **script**, the **sound** (transliteration in brackets), and the **English**, so you learn to recognise it and say it.

Saying who you are 🙋

Two words to introduce yourself: - **من (man)** = I - **اسم (esm)** = name So اسم من (esm-e man) means "my name".

The family 👨‍👩‍👧

The core family and friends words: - **پدر (pedar)** = father, **مادر (madar)** = mother - **برادر (baradar)** = brother, **خواهر (khahar)** = sister - **خانواده (khanevadeh)** = family, **دوست (dust)** = friend

How the writing works 🔤

Persian uses the **Perso-Arabic script**, read from **right to left**, and the letters **join up** into cursive words. There are **no capital letters**. Persian adds four letters of its own for sounds Arabic does not have: **پ گ چ ژ** (p, g, ch, zh).
