The world of work
This module teaches the Persian words for work, careers and the places people work. Every word comes with three things: the Persian script, a transliteration in brackets to help you say it, and the English meaning. Remember that Persian is read right to left. You will not type in Persian here - you will recognise the words and their meanings. (A native speaker should review the script before launch.)

Start with some general words about working life:
Match each workplace to its English meaning

Your turn: write in Persian
Write two or three sentences IN PERSIAN about a job and where that person works. Write in Persian script - the transliteration in brackets is a reading aid only.
- Name the job with من ... هستم (man ... hastam - I am ...): من معلم هستم (man moallem hastam - I am a teacher), or use شاگرد (shagerd - a pupil)
- Name the workplace: مدرسه (madrese - school), مغازه (maghazeh - shop), کتابخانه (ketabkhane - library) or دانشگاه (daneshgah - university)
- Say what you like with دوست دارم (dust daram - I like): کار دوست دارم (kar dust daram - I like work)
- You may add حرفه (herfe - a career), کارآموزی (karamuzi - an apprenticeship) or پول (pul - money)
Places first, then jobs
For the top marks, keep two groups of words clear. First, the places you work or study: مدرسه (madrese) school, دانشگاه (daneshgah) university, مغازه (maghazeh) shop. Second, the words about work itself: کار (kar) work, حرفه (herfe) career, کارآموزی (karamuzi) apprenticeship, بیکاری (bikari) unemployment. Learn each with its script AND transliteration, and you will recognise them instantly in the exam.
