This module teaches the Urdu words for jobs and workplaces. Every word comes with three things: the Urdu script, a transliteration in brackets to help you say it, and the English meaning. Remember that Urdu is read right to left. You will not type in Urdu here - you will recognise the words and their meanings. (A native speaker should review the script before launch.)

Your turn: write in Urdu
Write two or three sentences IN URDU about a job and where that person works. Write in Urdu script - the transliteration in brackets is a reading aid only.
- Name the job with میں ... ہوں (main ... hoon - I am ...): میں استاد ہوں (main ustad hoon - I am a teacher), or use ڈاکٹر (daktar - doctor) or انجینیئر (injiniyar - engineer)
- Name the workplace: اسکول (iskool - school), دکان (dukaan - shop), یونیورسٹی (yuniversiti - university) or کتب خانہ (kutub khana - library)
- Use the postposition میں (in) AFTER the workplace: اسکول میں (iskool mein - in a school)
- You may name نوکری (naukri - a job), کام (kaam - work) or مستقبل (mustaqbil - the future)
Job words and place words
For the top marks, keep two groups of words clear. First, the jobs - who someone is: ڈاکٹر (daktar) doctor, استاد (ustad) teacher, انجینیئر (injiniyar) engineer. Second, the places you work or study: اسکول (iskool) school, یونیورسٹی (yuniversiti) university, دکان (dukaan) shop. Learn each with its script AND transliteration, and you will recognise them instantly in the exam.
